Firefighting is dangerous work, and Ascent Integrated Tech is working to enable better communications between the people in these often clouded environments.
This device would need to include a throat-microphone, a heartrate sensor, and bone conduction headphones while also allowing for wireless communications. All that tech needed to also fit underneath tight-fitting firefighter gear.
The concepts and prototypes explored the options for a quick-to-wear device that stayed close to the body.
The final physical mockup took the idea of hugging the body and shifted it to the neck area. For flexibility of the head, the top and bottom are not fixed together, instead the top slides through a loop attached to the bottom.
